Scam Alert

Recently there have been multiple people getting phone calls from a man pretending to be the eldest grandson for whoever he called. Unfortunately, one of our church members was a receiver of this call, and fortunately, she was able to recognize this scam. We know of others in our community who have not been so lucky and ended up sending the person a lot of money only to find out they were scammed. We wanted to make an announcement just to raise awareness that this is going on. The basic gist of the conversation was the man calling, saying “Hi! This is your oldest grandson!” He tried to make small talk, made the excuse that he had a cold so his voice sounded different, and then said he was in Peru with some friends and that he needed money because they got into some trouble the previous evening. That’s the point she told him he was lying and hung up, knowing very well it wasn’t her grandson. So, please be careful, and watch out for people like this!
